Teens

Adolescence can be a tricky stage where individuals are working to balance independence with dependence.

It is completely natural for teens to push for more autonomy in their lives, and yet, they know that they are still dependent on their caregivers. This dynamic is not always easy to navigate and power struggles may occur at home. The social and mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have further compounded these developmental issues. Teens continue to experience changes in their schooling, social relationships, daily routines, and activities.

With strategies drawn from CBT, DBT, social skills training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and emotion-focused approaches, treatment methods are tailored to each teen’s unique needs. Family therapy sessions and parent coaching are included as needed. Collaboration with the school and other treatment providers is also included through a comprehensive model of care. I work alongside each teen to foster healthy coping skills that will become go-to strategies in times of distress.

Ultimately, instead of escalating conflicts, parents and teens will have the necessary tools needed to understand and support one another, resulting in increased emotional well-being for everyone.
